Συμμετείχα με ανακοίνωση, υπό τον τίτλο: Ottoman Melodies written down through Byzantine Notation during the 18th century: the cases of Peter Peloponnesian & Peter Byzantios
It is very well known that during the “long” Turkish 18th century lots of Ottoman Melodies (Melodies of every type, form and style) have been written down through Byzantine Notation. This paper is focusing rather on practical than on theoretical aspects of the issue. Ottoman Melodies written down by two great Byzantine Music personalities, such as Peter Peloponnesian and Peter Byzantios, are going to be examined as far as paleographical and musicological criteria are concerned. The final effort deals with the ability to decode, understand and of course perform the music of the above-mentioned Melodies. A very interesting, and in most cases unknown, melodic material is hidden underneath the symbolic neumatic Byzantine Notation; such an effort to “discover” it, is undoubtedly a new frontier through which both the notated documents and the living tradition of Ottoman Turkish music can be understood.
